baking spree

We have recently been put on quarantine and I’ve done many things to keep me occupied. Since we are not allowed to go about in public places, the rest of this blog will be what I’ve been doing to help myself stay sane.

One of my favorite things to do even before we were trapped inside was to bake.

My sister, Taylor’s, birthday was over spring break so I made her a birthday cake. It was a two layer chocolate cake, with raspberry preserve filling, and a raspberry frosting. I spent the whole day in the kitchen whipping it up. It was a lot of fun, and turned out to be better than I thought it would. Taylor loved it but I ate most of it in the end.

Ever since I have been very little my dad, sister and I loved to make peanut butter cookies. The recipe was from one of my dad’s favorite cooking books. I remember sitting on a stool to reach over the counter and place the fork marks on all the cookies before they went in the oven. It’s an easy recipe and whenever I feel like whipping something up, I’ll quickly make them and they will be eaten by the next day.

I didn’t have photos of everything I baked, so here is a photo I took while on a sunset walk at Santa Barbara City College.

I also made cream scones for the first time. It was from a box but they actually turned out really well, and weren’t dry like they can be. I ran into some difficulties, for instance there was a lot of dough and I was having trouble with it being sticky while it got everywhere. I also had to find a counter space big enough without spilling flour on the floor. It was a process but I figured it out and they turned out to be really good.

The last thing I’ve made recently was vanilla ice cream. I have an ice cream maker, so all I had to do was put cream and sugar together and churn it in the maker. I love ice cream and this ice cream is some of the best I’ve had. It’s already gone before it’s even put in the freezer. The only problem is that it is quite rich, and you can get a stomach ache if you eat too much.
