home of the Vaqueros

Last weekend one of my best friends Caitlin and I went to Santa Barbara City College to hang out and enjoy the view.

The whole SBCC campus is gorgeous, at every turn there is a spectacular view of either the ocean or downtown Santa Barbara. There are many grassy knolls to set up a picnic or simply just enjoy the view. SBCC is right around the corner from where I live, it is easy to go with my friends whenever I want to for example to learn how to skateboard, rollerblade, ride a bike or simply go on a walk. The campus is quite small but it is the perfect size for us to explore all it’s nooks and crannies.

I learned how to ride a bike, scooter, rollerblade and fly a kite for the first time at SBCC. During the summer last year I took my first college class there. I even started learning how to drive there in the parking lot. Santa Barbara High School has basketball and football games there since our stadium remodel is still under construction and it’s a huge stadium that looks out across the street from the beach.

On Sunday it was finally a little warmer but too windy to go to the beach so Caitlin and I walked over to SBCC. On the weekend, most of the students don’t have class so it’s empty there except the dog walkers and skateboarders. We brought paint and some old tennis shoes and painted them with flowers and sunsets, that unexpectedly turned out really well. I took the shoes out for a spin and went for a walk to look at the views and we stayed until just after sunset since it got cold and we were hungry. We could see all the funny people at the beach down below us and watch the birds fly above us. The lush green grass was speckled with ladybugs so we tried to collect as many as we could. A couple of cute dogs ran up to us while we laid on our backs admiring the blue sky and talked about the recent changes in each our lives. It started to get colder and the wind picked up so we got up and walked to her house. Once we were inside it started to get super windy. Later that night, we ate tacos and watched the superbowl halftime show.
